Some songwriters say they have received amounts equal to a ten-year advance on royalties. You need to get comfortable in your vocal range, master techniques that you struggle with, and push the limits if you want to be exceptional (and yes, you want to be exceptional…“Exceptional” is the goal, if you were ever confused about that).
Part of getting this right is also about choosing the appropriate sample. Some are super long. If you have an active kick pattern, choose a shorter 808. If your kick is less active, you can probably get away with a longer sample, but those aren’t good for complex bass lines.

Now that I’m an adult and a professional touring artist myself, I wanted to look back at some quotes from my personal favorite artists whose work I grew up on to see if they still resonated with me. Here are seven that I thought were particularly inspiring.
